Dental Insurance for the Unemployed

If you are unemployed and are without dental insurance, you have three options. You can purchase a dental insurance policy. You can purchase a dental discount plan or you can do without insurance for your teeth.

You can find dental discount plans and dental insurance for the unemployed on the Internet. However, before you make a final decision, you should be aware of a few things about these types of policies.

You may find a dental insurance policy that is an excellent bargain, but there are several things to look out for. The first is the waiting period you can expect to have before major services are covered. The second is the annual limit on the benefits you can be paid. The third is the availability of dentists. Your dentist may not be part of the network.

The best dental policies are often purchased as a rider on a health insurance policy.  See if your medical insurance broker can add dental coverage to your present policy.

A dental discount plan is not insurance. However, in many cases these policies can do a better job for families because of their low cost minimal waiting period. With a dental insurance policy, you will get a discount on various services. You may still have to pay seventy or eighty percent of the cost out of your pocket, but these policies are often very inexpensive and can be a bargain for many families.

In some cases, the unemployed are better off without any dental insurance. Dental insurance can cost more than it is worth for many people. And, unlike auto or health insurance, the benefit limit is often very low. This means that the extra exposure you have when you are not insured is minimal.
